Despite some recent setbacks for the climate agenda, negotiations through the annual COP process continue, offering the world the best chance it has to create the conditions for successful climate-change mitigation and adaptation. But with the official agenda already quite long, which issues warrant the closest attention?

Despite much hand-wringing about the decline of multilateralism and global governance, international summits and diplomacy continue. United Nations member states are pursuing a new Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, delegations from around the world recently met for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and they will soon gather at the 17th COP to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (in October). The year’s multilateral summitry will finish with the 31st UN Climate Change Conference in November.
