Tapo video doorbells by TP-Link have welcomed a new member, the Doorbell Pro D260, distinguished by massive hardware and tracking upgrades over earlier models. It is Tapo’s first 4K video doorbell, offering ultra-sharp image clarity for a clearer view of your front door. A core highlight is that it requires no subscription for storage and AI-enhanced detection features.
The Tapo D260 video doorbell combines a 4K camera with a 180-degree diagonal ultrawide lens in a 4:3 aspect ratio, allowing it to capture visitors from head to toe, while also keeping an eye on packages dropped directly against your front door. Full-color night vision further maintains visual clarity even after dark.
The doorbell pairs a PIR sensor with a radar sensor to filter out false triggers. Aerial Motion Mapping overlays the visitor’s path on your camera view so you can see what triggered an alert and where it happened. There are also AI-enhanced detection features that can identify people, pets, vehicles, and packages without subscription.
Furthermore, the D260 processes local facial recognition directly on the device. You can create facial profiles for family members, and the doorbell will send a specific alert stating that a family member has arrived, which can be useful for working families with school-going children.
Other highlighted features include an IP66 weatherproof rating, an anti-theft alarm, customizable activity zones, two-way audio with noise cancellation, pre-recorded Quick Responses, and support for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings. The doorbell also has an option for microSD or Tapo Hub storage, meaning you are not dependent only on paid cloud storage.

The D260 video doorbell can be installed wire-free with its built-in rechargeable battery, or can be hardwired for continuous 24/7 protection and pre-roll recording. TP-Link claims the battery life is up to 180 days depending on usage. There is also an option to power it with the brand’s solar panels.
There are no details about the US pricing yet, but you can find it listed for an early launch price of £159.99 (approximately $220) on the TP-Link UK website.
