Onde Armchair With Wave-Like Silhouette Looks Suspended in Time

After an exhausting day, we all want a relaxing place to sit. If the furniture design is eye-catching, it further elevates the experience and alleviates stress. The Onde armchair offers just that with a wave-like silhouette that enhances your entire interior space and makes you feel as if time has stopped.

“From the very beginning, I wanted its form to embody the idea of suspended time. This led me to ask: how can the shape of an armchair evoke the very moment when time stands still?” Jb-Ebeniste founder of Jb-Ebeniste Agencement told Homecrux.

Derived from a French word meaning “wave,” the Onde armchair’s proportions are inspired by a chaise longue, offering a true sense of relaxation. It is an instant caught between motion and stillness. It seems as though the wave approaching the shore was stopped in time, making it still.

Crafted from solid oak, the armchair measures 57 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 33 inches high. It is composed of 340 individual pieces of wood, meticulously positioned and glued together one by one before being sculpted.

The exterior surface is deliberately smooth to emphasize the purity of the silhouette, while the interior is hand-carved with a gouge. This textured surface catches the light, reveals the maker’s marks, and enhances the furniture’s living character.

A triple-density foam cushion is upholstered in textured jindo-snow fabric, a type of boucle fabric known for its elegance, inviting tactile comfort and long-lasting durability. This process gives the piece its flowing character while celebrating the craftsmanship inherent in the material itself.

The seat and backrest are suspended without touching each other. Instead, they flow together, making the continuous wave harmonize with your body as you sit. Featuring a versatile design, the chair is perfect for a living room corner, a sunroom, or a private space. Imagine reading your favorite book while your pet lounges cozily in integrated waves, allowing you both to enjoy each other’s company in peaceful harmony.

“This armchair was born from a simple intention: to create an object of profound comfort, an invitation to slow down. A place to read, meditate, or simply enjoy a quiet moment to oneself,” said Ebeniste.

The chair design may look stunning, but it demands more floor space. Its large footprint makes it look unsuitable for small apartments. The Onde armchair will be exhibited at Maison&Objet in September 2026. It is also available in a range of finishes, including velvet and leather.
