Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a “Morning Meeting” livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Monday’s key moments. 1. The S & P 500 fell Monday as investors were rattled by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s weekend essay calling for a slowdown in the development of AI capabilities. Oil prices also rose, with West Texas Intermediate crude trading over $103 per barrel, as the 10-year Treasury yield hit 5% for the first time since 2023. Several Club holdings tied to the artificial intelligence trade and data center buildout — Intel , Micron , Eaton , and GE Vernova — all declined. Broadcom and Nvidia were also down. In an email to portfolio director Jeff Marks, Jim Cramer said that with the oil surging and AI stocks losing steam, it’s difficult to take any action in the market. Jim reiterated advice that he’s previously given during previous oversold markets, saying sometimes “sitting on your hands” is worth it. Jim is traveling to San Francisco and will be doing “Mad Money” from the West Coast on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will be on the show Monday night. 2. Jim’s advice is why we’re not rushing to keep building our Intel and Micron positions. However, he said that Monday’s sharp declines in each stock are putting them at attractive enough levels to add them to the Club’s shopping list once the dust settles. “There is no reason they couldn’t be down 10%, which is the level we [would] entertain buying,” Jim wrote. Jeff cautioned that there’s still so much to “figure out.” Even if training of new models slows, the day-to-day running of AI, called inference, won’t be cooling off anytime soon. Inference still needs a lot of cloud compute. That might help explain why our hyperscaler names are holding up. 3. Cybersecurity stocks stand to be among the biggest beneficiaries of Amodei’s call to slow things down on AI. Club names CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks were surging over 14% and 12%, respectively. Generally, we do not chase parabolic moves. “I don’t know if I would buy on a move like this,” Jeff said. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz has frequently stressed the importance of cybersecurity investment as AI creates new vulnerabilities. Kurtz will join Jim on “Mad Money” on Monday evening.
