We have covered towable homes ranging from 19 square feet to 390 square feet, but it is rare to come across a dwelling that challenges the basic convention of what a tiny house should look like. The Grande S1 tiny house does exactly that, folding down into a road-legal trailer and then opening up into something far roomier than its towing dimensions would suggest.
Designed and built by California startup PODX GO, the Grande S1 tiny house measures 20 feet long and eight feet wide. It features a hydraulic system that helps the home expand to triple that width. PODX GO introduced the design through an Indiegogo campaign in 2023, and the concept has stayed on the radar of tiny house followers since.
Similar to the expandable tiny house available on Amazon, the Grande S1 tiny house pushes the two side sections outward, growing the floor space from a folded 140 square feet to a claimed 364 square feet. As per the company, the whole process takes about 15 minutes and runs mostly on remote control, with a handful of manual steps still part of the routine.
The exterior of the Grande S1 features high-strength A36 steel panels over a high-tensile steel frame, all wrapped around an insulated core for durability and thermal performance. Inside, the tiny home hosts an open living room that flows into the kitchen, where a countertop and cabinets frame a refrigerator and stainless steel sink.
The bedroom sits just off the kitchen. It comes equipped with a king-size Murphy bed that folds away to free up floor space. Other features include a wooden desk and closet. Elsewhere is the bathroom, which keeps things functional with a shower, toilet, and vanity tucked into its own compact footprint.

As per the company, the Grande S1 carries NOAH certification under ANSI 119.5 standards, intended to smooth out the insurance, financing, and DMV registration steps that can trip up less conventional builds. From a utility standpoint, it comes with a 120-volt hookup, a standard RV-style water inlet, an air conditioner, a water heater, a smoke and CO2 alarm, and the option to add solar for off-grid use.
Can you own one just yet? That is where the story gets murkier. The project launched on Indiegogo back in 2023, and it is now 2026 with no confirmed deliveries to those early backers. PODX GO had set $85,000 as the planned retail price once production ramped up, but there has been no update since on when, or whether, that production will actually happen.
Whether this amounts to a legitimate delay or something backers should worry about isn’t clear. Few formal complaints have surfaced so far, but for the people who put money down on a folding home three years ago, the wait itself has become the story.
