Goldfish Will Soon Be Gluten-Free: What We Know About the New Snack

Goldfish is giving customers with gluten sensitivities another reason to get their snack on this fall.

What Are the New Crackers Made Of?

“The Snack That Smiles Back” is rolling out its first certified gluten-free cheese crackers, called Goldfish Gluten Free, this November. The brand shared the news in an Aug. 11 Instagram post, saying Goldfish Gluten Free was “inspired by fans like Brooklyn,” who wrote in an accompanying letter that her celiac disease prevented her from eating her “favorite snack.”

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people, and it involves the small intestine being damaged when one ingests gluten, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation. The organization estimates that celiac disease affects “1 in 100 people worldwide, but only about 30% are properly diagnosed.”

Several other fans who clamored for gluten-free Goldfish Crackers online thanked Goldfish for the creation.

“My daughter was tested for celiac when she was a baby since I have celiac and she had it too. She has never had goldfish but sees kids eating them at school! This is amazing news!!!!!!” one commenter wrote under Goldfish’s post.

Here’s everything we know about Goldfish Gluten Free, including where to get them.

The new crackers are made with 100% real cheese and tout the “certified gluten-free” label on the packaging, “delivering the craveable cheddar flavor, playful fish shape and signature smile fans expect all in a snack parents can feel good about serving,” according to Goldfish.

“We’ve heard from many families who love Goldfish but haven’t always been able to enjoy them together, and that feedback stayed with us,” Tiphanie Maronta, senior vice president of Goldfish Crackers, said in a statement.

Maronta added: “With Goldfish Gluten Free, more families can now share the lunchbox moments, after-school snacks and smiles that Goldfish has inspired for generations.”
