To that end, Shanghai-based studio Tongqi Lu Design created the “Call It a Day” lighting collection designed to help you transition into relaxation without touching a switch.
Featuring a table lamp, floor lamp, and pendant lamp, the Call It a Day collection reimagines how we interact with lighting at home. Instead of treating a lamp like a mechanical machine, designer Tongqi Lu treats it like a soft, welcoming object that responds to careless, comforting human touch.
“Call It a Day is an interactive lighting collection designed around the quiet ritual of unwinding after work. Soft silicone surfaces invite pressing, pulling, and tapping instead of operating conventional switches. As the material stretches and deforms under casual touch, the light becomes part of a slower, more instinctive way of relaxing,” Tongqi Lu tells Homecrux.
The central idea behind the collection is to remove switches entirely. Tongqi Lu wanted to create a peaceful routine for evening wind-down, a moment where nothing needs to be rule-based or perfectly finished. The lights turn on and off using simple, natural gestures like a light press, a gentle tap, a soft bop, or a small pull.
To make this hands-on interaction feel inviting, the collection relies on a unique combination of materials. The lamps feature soft, translucent silicone shades supported by durable stainless steel, acrylic, and modern integrated LED components.
When you press or tug the silicone surface, it gently shifts, stretches, and flexes under your palm before slowly returning to its original form. This soft, squishy texture makes the lamps feel human and tactile rather than cold and rigid. The acrylic and stainless steel give the lamps a clean structural frame, while energy-efficient LEDs glow warmly through the frosted silicone.
