Good morning, Nina Lindholm here with the Europe Wire from the London newsroom.
In our take-private coverage, we’ve mentioned how assets on the UK stock market appeal to buyers due to a persistent valuation discount. However, it’s not just listed targets that are attracting sponsors. This week, we’ve seen a flurry of deals involving UK businesses, as well as one firm announcing the opening of a London office. We delve into these deals and office opening to start this Friday.
To finish, we’ll look at They Said It. This time, I’ll highlight a story exploring Providence Equity Partners’ activity with live entertainment and B2B conference businesses.
Growing market
This week we’ve seen a steady stream of deal announcements, with several of those transactions involving UK businesses. The latest to make a move is CVC with an investment in Ridge, an Oxford-based built environment consultancy.
CVC is acquiring its stake from Horizon Capital, which has backed the company since 2023. Ridge’s equity partners remain significant shareholders in the business.
Ridge helps clients turn complex briefs into buildings and infrastructure across the full project lifecycle, from planning and advisory through design and engineering to program and project management.
Since 2022, Ridge has grown revenue at roughly 23 percent compound annual growth rate and more than doubled its workforce, from about 800 people to roughly 1,650 across 16 UK offices. About 88 percent of its revenue comes from repeat client business.
The firm has worked on projects including Manchester’s skyline, motorsport venues, the Northern Line extension and energy efficiency upgrades for Marks & Spencer.
On the topic of buildings, earlier this week we saw Alpine Investors announce the firm’s first platform investment in the UK with the launch of Eight Group Service Partners, a hard facilities management platform.
The UK hard facilities market has plenty of strong local brands, but the market is still early in its consolidation with relatively few scaled platforms, Jack Armstrong, principal at Alpine, told me.
“Hard FM is particularly compelling because these are the essential systems that keep buildings safe and operational, and customers need to maintain them through economic cycles,” he added. “It is also a large and growing market, roughly £24 billion ($32 billion; €28 billion), and expanding more than 5 percent annually as safety and environmental regulation increases and the UK’s building stock ages.”
Alongside the launch, Eight Group brings together MV Lifts, Enertech, KCE FM, DPP, Irwin M&E and four other businesses to form the platform. The combined group repairs, maintains and installs the HVAC, electrical, mechanical, lift and fire safety systems that keep commercial buildings operational.
Sticking with properties but stepping away from engineering, we saw Queen’s Park Equity complete the acquisition of PDC Group through its portco Canford Group, marking the platform’s first bolt-on since QPE’s initial investment in 2025.
The deal combines Canford Law with PDC to establish Canford Group, a tech-enabled specialist legal services platform. PDC comprises three entities – Property Debt Collection, PDC Law and PDC Conveyancing – operating across the full debt recovery lifecycle for landlord and residential property manager clients recovering unpaid service charge and ground rent.
“PDC was a clear strategic fit from day one – a highly complementary business that diversifies the group’s end markets, deepens its customer base, and adds real scale to the platform,” said Alex McRae, an investor at QPE, in a statement.
‘Excellent base’
Private equity isn’t just picking up businesses operating across the UK built environment – some are also moving in. Monterro announced this week that the firm is opening its first UK office in London.
The office will support portfolio companies as they expand across Northern Europe, and bring Monterro closer to software companies, advisers, experts and potential add-on opportunities.
The expansion comes as the UK technology sector continues to grow rapidly, with a combined market valuation of $1.6 trillion in 2026 and the UK being the fastest AI adopter in the G7, according to a press statement.
“London is one of Europe’s most important financial and technology hubs and having people on the ground in the region gives us an excellent base from which to support our portfolio companies more closely, while strengthening our Northern European network,” said Gustav Lagercrantz, CEO of Monterro, in the statement.
Main Capital Partners is also among the firms betting on the UK market. The Dutch firm agreed this week to acquire all the operating subsidiaries directly held by Tribal Group, a UK-listed education software and services company trading on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.

They Said It
I’ve got a long weekend planned for next week, for which I’ve booked tickets to see Hadestown on the West End.
Perhaps that’s why I was drawn to Craig McGlashan’s piece exploring Providence Equity Partners’ activity in the live entertainment and B2B events segments.
In August, the firm agreed to sell ATG Entertainment, a theater company that covers venue operations, production and ticketing. It operates 70 venues that host shows such as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Paddington the Musical and Stranger Things: The First Shadow. The sale was around £4.5 billion ($6.1 billion) versus an entry of roughly £350 million, PE Hub understands.
I particularly liked one quote highlighting the importance of experiences that AI can’t produce:
“We call this the IRL economy. This is rooted in a new and more fundamental reality that is poised to shape the economic landscape for decades to come: the AI revolution is increasing the relative value of the things it cannot automate or replicate.” – Robert Sudo, senior managing director, Providence Equity Partners
That’s all from me. John R Fischer will be with you later today with the US Wire, and I’ll be back on Europe duty on Monday.
Cheers,
Nina
