10 Easy Pieces: Design-Forward Pedestal and Tower Fans
A pedestal or tower fan occupies a useful middle ground: substantial enough to cool an entire room, but without asking you to rewire the ceiling or dedicate a surface to a table fan that never quite reaches beyond the person sitting in front of it. Portable, directional, and increasingly well designed, it’s one of those seasonal objects that’s worth choosing with as much care as any piece of furniture.
Above: For those in the UK and mainland Europe, Create makes a variety of good-looking fans including the Air Stand Foldable Pedestal Fan which brilliantly collapses and folds away for storing off season; £59.95. It’s designed with a continental (EU) plug but ships with a UK adapter. Fingers crossed this brand considers shipping stateside soon. While not quite the same, the TriPole Foldable Standing Fan is a close alternative for US readers; $64.99.
Above: We’ve long admired Hunter, a brand making classic fans since 1886. The Classic S16 Oscillating Standing Fan is available in brushed nickel (shown) and black; $112.49 at Lumens.
Above: The Stadler Form Peter Tower Fan is an energy-efficient slim tower fan with six settings that range from ultra-powerful to natural breeze; $229.99 at 2Modern.

Above: From Fanimation Fans, the Arden Pedestal Fan is designed almost like a piece of a furniture. With a walnut tripod base, the fan features a 3-speed rotary switch and oscillating airflow; $383.98 at Lumens.
