Slipknot Returns With A New Bestseller — Though It Doesn’t Preview The Band’s Album

Fans of the rock band Slipknot have been waiting years for new music from the group, and their prayers were recently answered. The outfit delivered a tune titled “Arsenal,” though longtime lovers of the troupe should not expect a new album right away.

Slipknot surprised its legion of followers with “Arsenal” a short time ago, but guitarist Jim Root stated on social media that the track will not be featured on Slipknot’s as-yet-untitled and as-yet-unannounced upcoming eighth album. Instead, it’s a standalone cut that will hopefully appease fans until the band has more time in the studio. Nonetheless, “Arsenal” becomes a bestseller in the United Kingdom, though not one of Slipknot’s biggest.

Slipknot’s “Arsenal” Debuts on Two U.K. Charts

“Arsenal” debuts on a pair of sales-focused rankings in the U.K. this week. The newly-shared offering launches at No. 73 on the Official Singles Downloads chart and No. 82 on the Official Singles Sales tally.

Slipknot earns its eighth appearance on the Official Singles Sales chart and its eleventh on the Official Singles Downloads ranking as “Arsenal” arrives. The two rosters are similar, though the downloads list focuses specifically on purchases from digital stores, while the overall sales tally incorporates purchases across multiple formats in the U.K.

“Arsenal” Brings Slipknot to a New Low on One Chart

On both tallies where “Arsenal” debuts, it is far from one of Slipknot’s strongest performers. On the Official Singles Sales chart, the newly released cut actually marks a new low for the Grammy winners. Previously, “The Devil in I” held that distinction. That single peaked at No. 77 more than a decade ago – five spaces higher than where “Arsenal” begins its run.

Over on the Official Singles Downloads chart, it’s impossible for “Arsenal” to push Slipknot to a new low. “Yen,” the group’s most recent hit before this latest win, spent one frame at No. 100, the last position on the tally.

Slipknot Scores Its First New Hit in More Than Four Years

On both charts where “Arsenal” debuts, it has been more than four years since Slipknot collected a new win. “The Dying Song (Time to Sing)” arrived on the Official Singles Sales ranking in July 2022 and eventually topped out at No. 71. That same track also reached the Official Singles Downloads chart, and only a few weeks later, “Yen” followed in August 2022.

Slipknot’s “Duality” Climbs Again

Slipknot claims two hit songs in the U.K. this week. As “Arsenal” arrives, the group’s longtime favorite “Duality” also gains ground, rising four spaces from No. 33 to No. 29 on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. “Duality” has already ruled the genre-specific ranking and has now spent 270 weeks – just over half a decade – somewhere on the genre-focused tally.
