Not all $100 grocery budgets are created equal in America. There are 24 states, or nearly half of the United States, where a $100 grocery budget covers what would cost $100 or less nationally, according to a new original research study from GOBankingRates.
GOBankingRates utilized the 2024 Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey to source household costs for various grocery expenditures. Each state’s grocery cost-of-living index was sourced to calculate the statewide averages for each expenditure. From there, the actual cost for each state’s various grocery expenditures along with the purchasing power for each expenditure was calculated using a $100 grocery budget.
