Japanese high-end audio brand Esoteric has launched T-01 turntable featuring patented “MagneDrive” contactless drive system. The turntable inherits engineering philosophy from the company’s flagship Grandioso T1, and includes 10MHz external clock synchronization, a triple-layer aluminum and MDF cabinet construction, and a newly developed, MagneDrive motor system integrated into a installation-friendly chassis. It is intended to reproduce the original master sound with musical energy, realism, and emotional depth.
The major highlight of the patented drive system is a very heavy 13 kg aluminum platter that helps keep rotation smooth and stable. Despite its weight, the Magne-Float System uses magnetic force to partially “float” the platter, reducing the weight actually carried by the bearing to about 5.5 kg. This helps the platter rotate more smoothly and reduce bearing stress and vibration.
It’s the MagneDrive System that enables T-01 to deliver “extraordinary rotational silence, stability, and high-torque performance for revealing music with uncompromising precision, energy, and realism.” The motor uses a rotating magnetic driver to spin the aluminum platter through a soft-iron induction wheel. As there is no direct physical contact, the platter stays isolated from motor-borne vibration and rumble. The silent motor operation is further enhanced through the Vibration Absorber Case” construction.
The platter is supported by a triple-layered chassis combining aluminum and wood to effectively control vibration, with a mid-chassis finished in luxurious high-gloss piano lacquer. There are also specialized feet spike + spike pad + damper for maximum vibration suppression and anti-feedback performance. The T-01 turntable comprises separate main unit and a power supply unit, which allows for enhanced operational efficiency and sound isolation, according to the company.

Esoteric T-01 analog turntable measures 539 × 206 × 432 mm (21.25 × 8.125 × 17.125 inches), which means, it will require plenty of counter space to sit on. Compation with rotational speeds of 33⅓ and 45 RPM, the turntable features a +/- 12 percent speed adjustment option. It will begin shipping in September, with or without a tonearm, for a starting price of £38,999 (approximately $52,000).
