Just in time for college move-in or a September 1st lease start, IKEA‘s highly-anticipated KOMPISHÄNG collection is finally available to shop online – starting today.
Designed with city dwellers, college students, renters, and frequent house movers in mind, this limited-edition drop is stocked with stylish, easy-to-move furniture, proving that pieces made for mobility can, in fact, look good. And according to the collection’s creative leader, Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, that was exactly the intention of KOMPISHÄNG. ‘We stated very early that the products should feel like “real” furniture, even if we added solutions that made them perfect for moving,’ she tells Homes & Gardens.
These practical pieces are also ideal for those with small living rooms. When not in use, the Green Pine Desk can fold up and slide behind a couch, and the Birch Stools can stack into a makeshift shelving unit.

12 versatile pieces make up the collection, including the Red Pine Side Table that can fold up and fit over your shoulder and the Birch Stools which can act as seats or, when stacked, a two-tiered table. Made from wood, steel, and canvas and available in neutral tones with subtle pops of color, these pieces are designed for longevity. They’re durable enough to move with you from home to home and tasteful enough to complement whatever design style you adopt.
Beyond its convenience and style, what makes the KOMPISHÄNG collection even more desirable is its affordability – every piece costs less than $200. Consider it a reminder that although the act of moving can be expensive, your furniture doesn’t have to be, and just because something’s priced cheaply doesn’t mean it won’t endure.

This foldable desk can double as a dining table in a small apartment. It features a durable, easy-to-clean wood surface and sturdy steel legs that fold inward. When not in use, fold it up and tuck it in a closet to create more space.
With its sculptural silhouette, this bookend is more of an art object than a traditional book holder. Plus, its vibrant red color makes it all the more design-driven. It can hold several books within its steel frame, and when it’s time to move, it’s easy to pick up and transport.

Because of the circular frame around its base, you can carry it over your shoulder as if it’s a tote bag. Set it down and pop it into place, and it’s back to being a practical side table for any room in your home.

Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom explains that some KOMPISHÄNG pieces support customization, and this mirror is one of them. ‘You can display photos, postcards, or memories even if you’re not allowed to put nails in the wall,’ she says. Just slide them between the mirror’s wood frame to create a personalized piece.
