‘As the evenings draw in, additional lamps placed at different heights or in various corners and nooks extenuate that coziness; adding practical light without taking from the ambiance,’ she notes.
Niki also emphasizes the importance of flexibility, adding, ‘Dimmable lamps add an extra element of control to the mood. The lower they go, the lower you sink into the sofa.’
The appeal of a lamp like this lies not only in its decorative value but in the way it shapes the atmosphere of a room throughout the day. ‘Table lamps don’t always need to be about function but consider how you use the room when deciding their position,’ Niki advises.
She suggests using lighting to define the different roles a space can play. ‘Use table lamps to create different scenes throughout the day. The same room could be a brighter home office by day, an elegant entertaining space in the evening or a cozy reading nook by night.’
And if the lemon motif feels bold, that is precisely the point. The most interesting interiors rely on imperfections. ‘Multiple table or bedside lamps don’t have to match,’ Niki says. ‘Just two different styles and heights can make for a much more interesting and effective lighting scheme.’
