Put on Molly Zombie to Become a Walking Halloween Nightmare

For Erica, zombies have always been part of the Halloween theme. Elaborate cosplay, animatronics, and scary figures in her yard are a common sight. This time, what she is enduring will be more frightening than ever, her weary neighbors lament. She is adorning a creature that reacts, shifts its gaze, and leaves you agape with its moving mouth and teeth sticking out.

This is Molly Zombie. If you’re frequent to Halloween parties, chances are, you have caught a glimpse of this wearable zombie puppet from VFX Creates, clinging to an actor’s chest to instill fear. If you haven’t seen it before, here’s what it’s all about.

Molly zombie puppet is created in a few variations to choose from (more on it later). The basic creative intent behind this near-realistic creature is to keep the workings hidden under its tattered costume. And to present the onlookers with an illusion of a zombie wrapped around a person, moving, shouting, and gesturing like it has a mind of its own.

Therefore, at first glance, it’s almost impossible not to be fear-struck by the grotesque figure, which appears to be clinging to its victim rather than being controlled by one. VFX Creates has designed Molly to conceal the operator’s working arm inside, with a fake fist to complete the illusion that you “see” the entire person puppeteering. A harness supports the puppet against the person’s body, making it almost impossible to pick out the prop until you’ve been there to see it happen.

The gruesome appearance of Molly Zombie becomes terrifying with how the operator manipulates the creature’s mouth using the concealed hand, just like a ventriloquist, while the built-in sound system works in harmony to make the Halloween prop come to life in a nightmarish way.  It uses a Puppet Master Sound System™ built-in with a 16-watt speaker that comes preloaded with zombie effects. Users have the choice to include their own audio clips with downloadable software.

The moving jaw, the growling, and the chatter just add to the fear mongering. The synchronization of movement and sound creates a live performance rather than feeling like a pre-programmed interaction of other animatronics on the market.

Molly weighs eight pounds at the most, which makes her really comfortable to carry for an extended duration.
