This $200 Kitchen Robot Cracks and Cooks Your Eggs for You
San Francisco-based startup Cheffy has launched EGOR (Efficient Gastronomic Operational Robot) on Kickstarter. This countertop device cracks whole eggs and cooks them exactly how we like, without our fingers ever touching a shell. Currently seeking crowdfunding, the device can be preordered for $200. The price tag is actually the early-bird campaign rate. Once the crowdfunding wraps, EGOR is expected to retail closer to $400.
After taking a good look at the campaign, we had two questions: is it worth backing, and, most importantly, how does it actually pull this off? As per the brand’s campaign video, we load an uncracked egg into the device, and EGOR cracks it open using what the company describes only as “patent-pending technology,” without revealing details on what is happening mechanically inside.
From there, we place the egg into a dedicated compartment, pick a cooking style, and set the time we want breakfast ready, and the robot handles everything else. The cracked shell drops into a built-in compartment rather than landing on the counter, and the egg gets cooked to whatever finish we’ve chosen.
Speaking of finish, EGOR offers seven cooking modes: sunny-side up, over easy, over medium, over hard, soft-boiled, medium-boiled, and hard-boiled. For anyone who prefers finishing the cooking themselves, there is also a crack-only setting, selectable through the device’s display interface. Cheffy states that a single cycle can handle up to two fried eggs or six boiled ones at a time.
The company is also selling EGOR alongside a companion toaster called TOASTR. Functioning as a typical toaster, TOASTR syncs to EGOR’s timer, so running both together means the toast pops right as the eggs finish rather than sitting around going cold. Another aspect we really liked about the device is that it is dishwasher-friendly. The fry pans, boiling tray, and finishing lid all lift out and go straight into the dishwasher.
EGOR and TOASTR both come in an eggshell white finish and run on 120 to 240 volts, so voltage isn’t something we need to think about no matter where we live. Cheffy founder Arjun Mehta has built the entire campaign around the idea that mornings are rush hour, and that a hot meal shouldn’t have to cost us that time.

The Kickstarter campaign launched on July 29 and has already raised more than $700,000 against a goal of just over $100,000. Notably, Cheffy hasn’t partnered with any marketing agency for this push. Word of mouth alone appears to be driving its backers.
Those interested can back the project on Kickstarter at the early-bird price of $200, or add TOASTR to the bundle for $350. Whether EGOR holds up to the claims and walks the talk remains the real question, and we’ll know more once Cheffy starts shipping review units.
