Apax to acquire medical packaging firm Centor and another plastic packaging company from Gerresheimer for €1.5bn

  • The sale of Centor is expected to close by the end of financial year 2026, while the sale of the plastics packaging business is expected to close in the first half of financial year 2027

Apax Partners agreed to acquire Ohio-based Centor, a medical packaging firm and another plastic packaging business from Gerresheimer for €1.5 billion.

In 2025, the two businesses generated combined revenue of about €570 million with a total of around 2,400 employees

The sale of Centor is expected to close by the end of financial year 2026, while the sale of the plastics packaging business is expected to close in the first half of financial year 2027

“Centor and Primary Packaging Plastics are market leaders in prescription vials and primary pharmaceutical packaging, built on a decades long reputation for quality and reliability,” said says Anders Meyerhoff, a partner at Apax in a statement. “We have significant experience in carveouts and, together with our Operational Excellence Practice, we will work alongside management to establish a strong, standalone company positioned for long term growth.”

Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc is serving as lead financial advisor to Gerresheimer. Commerzbank also supports as financial advisor and has provided fairness opinions. Latham & Watkins is serving as legal counsel to Gerresheimer.

Gerresheimer is a German medical packaging company.
